Chicken is love and what about bamboo chicken?


We all love to try new dishes, everything has their own unique way of preparing. For the non vegetarians it is God of all. Chicken is favourite of all. In a country like India we have like hundred of ways to cook chicken and each of them is just great in their own terms. Among them there is this Bamboo Chicken this dish is just deliciously heaven. The taste, aroma and the way it is prepared can make your mouth go watery. This is a tribal dish. The smell of the ingridiends blending and the smell of bamboo and the firewood mixed with it is simply unbeatable. So lets check out how we can prepare tasty chicken cooked in bamboo stem in home. Follow this simple easy steps.

What all do we need for it, the most important freshly cut bamboo stem with open end, chicken boneless, firewoods.


500 gms. chicken boneless

to taste salt

1/2 tsp. turmeric powder

1 tbsp. red chili powder or to taste

1 onion, chopped

2 green chilies, chopped

1 tbsp. ginger-garlic paste

1 tbsp. roasted coriander powder

1 tsp. roasted cumin powder

1 tsp. garam masala powder

juice of 1/2 lime

handful coriander leaves, chopped

1 medium size bamboo

1 banana leaf & foil to seal the bamboo

onion rings, chopped coriander leaves & fried onions to garnish


Method :

Clean and rinse the chicken thoroughly.Marinate the chicken with all the above mentioned ingredients starting from salt to coriander leaves overnight.

Then place the fire woods on the ground pour some kerosene and burn it until till catches some good fire.

Start filling the bamboo stem with the marinate upto ¾ of the stem. Add some fresh green chillies chopped, onions and a bit of mustard oil. Than close the opening of the stem with bamboo leaves stuffed into it.

Place it over fire. It neends 45minute to 1 hour to cooks. Keep in mind to keep rolling the stem by some time so that it cooks well .

Now to separate it, either you can cut it in middle or remove the bamboo leaves turn the opening down and separate it. For the garnishing part, Take a fresh bamboo leave clean it. Place the chicken in it and garnish it with chopped onion rings, lemon juice and corriender. Your bamboo chicken is ready to serve.
